Fragrance Lamps versus Candles
Scented candles are widely used for aromatic purposes. When these candles burn, a continuous stream of fragrance arises from the evaporation of their herbal and floral essential oils. The fragrance fills the air and is sure to bring back nostalgic memories. You can let your imagination go with the aroma around you. When scented candles are used in aromatherapy, you get benefited as you breathe in the aroma released, which has therapeutic effects.
Fragrance lamps work in a similar manner, except for the fact that they undergo a catalytic combustion process to dispense fragrance into the air by burning a special alcohol based liquid used in the lamp. The main advantage of fragrance lamps is that they do not burn with an open flame like candles. When a candle burns, it produces a melted pool of scented wax at its top and it slowly pours to the bottom making a mess in the area where the candle is placed. It also lets off soot into the air. Black soot is nothing but the incomplete combustion of fuels that contain carbon. Itís been noted that scented candles produce more soot than the unscented ones. Black soot can affect lungs and their most obvious negative effect is seen in the blackening of walls and surfaces in your home or office. If the candle used happens to have lead wick, then it is more dangerous since the burning of such candles leads to concentration of lead particles into the air, and the quantity of lead particles released is much more than the EPA recommended standards. It is also a considerable health hazard.
Fragrance lamps eliminate all of these problems, because they produce an alcohol based fragrance through catalytic stone wicks. They do not release soot into the air unlike scented candles. The catalytic combustion process in the fragrance lamp purifies air, increases the level of oxygen, and destroys odor and bacteria. They are much safer to use than candles as they do not need a constant flame to operate. When you use candles, you need to keep a watch on them and take care to blow out the flame in case you are leaving the area where the candle is lighted. On the contrary, fragrance lamps only need a flame for a few minutes in order to start. Once the liquid inside completely evaporates, the fragrance lamp will go out by itself, thereby relieving you of constant attention.
Though scented candles may be cheaper than the fragrance lamps, they do not stand on par with fragrance lamps when it comes to the issues of safety and benefits. Fragrance lamps are beneficial in a lot of ways and are certainly worth those extra dollars that you shed.
